Tarangire is the closest big-game park to Arusha and the easiest full day of real safari you can do without packing a bag. In the dry season the Tarangire River is the only water for miles, and elephant herds a hundred strong come down to it under thousand-year-old baobabs. Giraffe, zebra, impala and eland move through the open woodland, and lion and leopard follow them.
