What a 3-day Tanzania safari actually covers

A three-day safari runs the western arm of the northern circuit: Lake Manyara for flamingos and forest elephants, the Ngorongoro Crater for the densest concentration of large mammals in Africa, and Tarangire for its baobabs and huge elephant herds. All three gates are within a three-hour drive of Arusha, so almost none of your time is spent on transfer days.

What three days cannot do is the Serengeti. The drive from Arusha to the Seronera Valley takes most of a day each way, which means two of your three days would be spent in the car. If the Serengeti is on your list, start at five days instead.

How much a 3-day safari costs

Our 3-day safari starts at $690 per person camping and $950 per person staying in lodges, based on two people sharing. That includes all park and conservation fees, a private 4x4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, your driver-guide, accommodation, meals, drinking water and transfers from Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport.

Roughly 40% of that figure is government park and crater fees, which are identical for every operator in Tanzania. The larger your group, the lower the per-person cost, because the vehicle and guide are shared.

3-day Tanzania safari FAQ

The questions we get most about 3-day trips from Arusha.

Is a 3-day Tanzania safari worth it?
Yes, if you accept that it covers the crater side of the northern circuit rather than the Serengeti. Three days gives you three completely different ecosystems, two nights out of Arusha and a realistic chance of seeing four of the Big Five.
How much does a 3-day Tanzania safari cost?
From $690 per person camping and $950 per person in lodges, in US dollars, based on two people sharing a private 4x4. Park and crater fees, guide, accommodation, meals and transfers from Arusha are included.
Can I see the Serengeti in 3 days?
Not comfortably. The drive from Arusha to the Serengeti takes most of a day in each direction, so a three-day Serengeti trip is mostly driving. Choose the 5-day safari if the Serengeti matters to you.
Will I see the Big Five on a 3-day safari?
Lion, elephant and buffalo are near-certain, rhino is realistic on the crater floor and leopard is the one that usually gets away. Nothing is guaranteed in a wild ecosystem, but the crater gives short trips unusually good odds.
Where does the 3-day safari start and finish?
In Arusha. We pick you up at your hotel — or at Kilimanjaro International Airport if you are arriving that morning — and drop you back at the end of day three.

Tell us your dates and we will send a written 3-day quote in USD within 24 hours — with 10% going to the Fruitful Orphanage.
